Trump administration to cut troop levels in Afghanistan and Iraq

US President Donald Trump earlier this week ordered the Pentagon to pull 2500 US troops from Afghanistan and Iraq by mid-January 2021.
Acting US Defence Secretary Christopher Miller told reporters that I am formally announcing that we will implement President Trump’s orders to continue our repositioning of forces.

The Trump administration’s decision to make a major reduction in Afghanistan, where violence has surged as Afghan negotiators engage in halting peace talks, in particular, could bring to head tensions that have intensified between some at the Pentagon and White House during a chaotic transition period.
